Role Summary

The Clinical Informatics Trainer is responsible for designing and delivering comprehensive educational programs for clinical staff (including nurses, unit clerks, nursing assistants, ancillary clinicians, and physicians) across various locations within Cook County Health (CCH). This role focuses on enhancing user proficiency with the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, facilitating onboarding for new users, and optimizing system functionality through effective training methods.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collaborate with clinical operations, revenue cycle training teams, Clinical Informatics personnel, and IT staff to evaluate training needs and create tailored educational solutions to enhance EMR system usage.
  2. Develop and curate training materials such as course outlines, handouts, user guides, eLearning modules, and competency assessments, ensuring they are updated in response to user feedback and system modifications.
  3. Assess and select the most effective training methodologies based on audience characteristics, content complexity, and desired learning outcomes.
  4. Conduct training sessions in various formats, including classroom instruction, unit-based training, eLearning, and personalized coaching.
  5. Engage in unit and integrated testing, including the revision of test scripts as necessary.
  6. Create and maintain competency assessments to validate user proficiency and ensure alignment with workflow changes.
  7. Coordinate with Information Systems to verify the functionality of training environments.
  8. Complete the trainer curriculum, which encompasses training delivery, instructional design, and eLearning best practices, applying this knowledge to uphold training standards.
  9. Establish and update instructor guidelines for EMR workflows, ensuring consistency between training materials and actual processes.
  10. Verify that system configurations are accurately reflected in all training settings.
  11. Work towards achieving certification requirements for staff as directed.
  12. Travel to various sites within CCH to provide on-site training support.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  2. A minimum of three years of experience in electronic medical record (EMR) training.
  3. Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  4. Local travel is required; candidates must possess a valid driver's license and have access to reliable transportation.
  5. Flexibility in working hours is essential.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  2. One year of experience in providing Cerner end-user training.
  3. Prior experience with Cerner EMR systems.
  4. Experience with software for developing web-based training, such as Adobe Captivate.
  5. Background in adult learning theories and methodologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Familiarity with Cerner EMR System and audiovisual equipment.
  2. Understanding of clinical terminology and operations within healthcare settings.
  3. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with diverse staff and patient populations.
  4. Strong skills in program development, project management, and leadership.
  5. Ability to convey concepts and demonstrate tasks effectively during training.
  6. Capacity to build rapport with staff and comprehend their application needs.
  7. Flexibility and adaptability in executing training activities.
  8. Demonstrated analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.

Physical and Environmental Considerations

This role operates within a healthcare environment, necessitating adherence to all safety protocols and policies, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment and compliance with sanitation practices.
