Job Overview

As a Lead Systems Architect at Fanatics Betting & Gaming (FBG), you will play a pivotal role in shaping our Data Platform Engineering team. Reporting directly to the Director of Platform Engineering, your primary responsibilities will include defining and executing our engineering strategy, developing processes, and creating tools that enhance our operations within Fanatics Betting and Gaming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and execute technical roadmaps for a suite of storage-centric technologies, encompassing databases, caches, and messaging systems within a distributed cloud framework.
  • Develop observability frameworks that facilitate comprehensive system monitoring, thereby reducing incident response and resolution durations.
  • Design and implement tools that enable developers to concentrate on high-value tasks and unique product features.
  • Gather and integrate internal user feedback to ensure that productivity tools align with developer needs.
  • Promote internal products and tools to foster widespread adoption across the organization.
  • Participate in an incident management team dedicated to maintaining the high availability of the Fanatics Betting and Gaming platform.
  • Establish strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, both within and outside of Engineering, to collect and present testing metrics and activities.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance within the engineering team, serving as a mentor and role model.
  • Assist development teams in adhering to the principles, guidelines, and best practices outlined in the engineering strategy.
  • Collect and present testing metrics and activities to key stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements and trends in engineering.
  • Be open to occasional travel for events and team meetings.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in designing, building, and maintaining distributed systems and large-scale data processing systems in production, demonstrating a solid track record of reliability.
  • 5+ years of experience in application development within a distributed systems environment (back end preferred).
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to influence and resolve problems effectively.
  • Proven commitment to documentation-first engineering practices.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with engineering teams to implement suitable tools and practices that balance quality and productivity.
  • Adaptable and positive attitude, thriving in a fast-paced environment and open to new initiatives.
  • Strong personal initiative with a proactive approach to identifying problems, learning swiftly, and applying solutions.
  • Highly focused on outcomes and driven by data.
  • Expertise in conducting root cause analysis of low-level incidents across interconnected systems.
  • Proficient in Infrastructure as Code systems (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Experience with observability tools, chaos testing, and incident management.
  • Ability to integrate third-party systems into a unified development platform.
  • Proficiency in Java, Golang, or Python is required, with a strong preference for Python.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a cloud-native environment is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with software compliance workflows is a plus.
  • Global experience with distributed organizations is preferred.
