Wastewater Collection System Maintenance Technician

The City of Idaho Falls is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the position of Wastewater Collection System Operator-In-Training. This role is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties related to the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of sewer systems.
Key Responsibilities- Travel to various locations to monitor line condition, observe system flow, and remove debris and obstructions to prevent line back-ups and property damage.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain wastewater collection systems, including the operation of high-velocity hydraulic jetters and vacuum trucks.
- Remove blockages in wastewater collection systems and ensure proper containment of decontamination during and after backups and spills.
- Assist with manhole surveys, maintain, clean, and inspect manholes and covers, and prepare written reports on manhole condition.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment, including backhoes, loaders, jet flushers, and TV trucks.
- Perform preventative maintenance line cleaning and flushing, and identify and record wastewater collection system problems.
- Read, use, and interpret sewer collection and storm drainage system plans and maps.
- Adhere to and comply with all state, federal, and local regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to safe work practices and all operation and maintenance duties.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One year of experience performing similar duties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Idaho Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement required.
- Wastewater Collections System Operator in Training Certification required.
- Ability to lift 70 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
Employees in this position will work in an outdoor environment, subject to changing and seasonal weather extremes. Tasks may require a variety of physical activities, including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and lifting. Daily exposure to hazardous materials, moving parts, and equipment is possible.
