Role Overview:
Airtable's infrastructure is advancing to accommodate the demands of our rapidly expanding engineering organization. We are seeking backend engineers to join our team to enhance critical product infrastructure, focusing on creating systems that provide an exceptional developer experience and can scale as we grow.

Current Openings:

  • Storage Team: The mission of the Storage team is to expedite product development at Airtable by offering scalable, dependable, and user-friendly storage abstractions. We utilize RDS MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis, and TiDB. Ideal candidates will have an interest in distributed systems and databases, eager to work on business-critical, petabyte-scale storage systems.
  • Data Infrastructure Team: This team aims to facilitate data-driven decision-making at Airtable by providing reliable, self-service, high-performance analytics infrastructure. Technologies such as Redshift, Spark, Trino, Kinesis, and Flink are employed to process extensive data quantities in our data warehouse.
  • Service Orchestration Team: Our service orchestration pod is tasked with implementing next-generation technologies for building, running, and deploying backend services. We seek engineers passionate about developing our infrastructure to support Airtable's product development reliably and scalably.
  • Developer Effectiveness Team: This team is responsible for the overall development environment and toolchain, including the IDE experience, code review processes, and build/test frameworks. Their goal is to enhance developer satisfaction and efficiency.
  • Scaling & Resiliency Team: This team manages the core shared services integral to Airtable's serving infrastructure, focusing on the long-term evolution of our architecture, improving horizontal scaling, failure isolation, and developer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and lead significant enhancements to Airtable's infrastructure, collaborating across teams and product areas to maximize business and engineering impact.
  • Address systems-level challenges in a complex design environment where scalability, efficiency, reliability, and security are paramount.
  • Create clean, reusable, and maintainable abstractions that will be utilized by Airtable's engineers for years to come.
  • Take full ownership of components of Airtable's infrastructure, ensuring reliability, performance, efficiency, and observability of our production environment.

Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a minimum of 2 years of industry experience and a keen interest in learning new technologies in a dynamic environment. Experience in databases, distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, and data infrastructure is essential. A strong foundation in computer science, with a degree in CS or a related field, is required.

Compensation:
The base salary range for this role varies based on work location, relevant skills, and experience. Our total compensation package includes benefits, restricted stock units, and potential incentive compensation.
