Position Overview
Tonal is seeking a dedicated backend engineer to collaborate across various teams, including product, engineering, and design. This role is pivotal in developing the infrastructure that supports our state-of-the-art personal training platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of significant software initiatives for our backend services.
  • These services are integral to our platform, facilitating personalized workout suggestions, dynamic media generation, and analytics derived from the most comprehensive fitness data available.
  • Work closely with integrated software, hardware, and content teams to enhance our unique consumer fitness offerings.
  • Partner with the product team to clarify specifications and create designs for new functionalities.
  • Implement, test, deploy, and monitor software for our cloud-based backend microservices.
  • Write and review clean, secure, and testable code, emphasizing maintainability, scalability, and performance.
  • Develop and maintain cloud-based big data pipelines.
  • Utilize analytics to comprehend product behavior and drive data-informed decisions.
  • Mentor and share knowledge with junior engineers.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated backend engineer with a proven track record of managing software projects from inception to completion, eager to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative setting.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently with minimal oversight.
  • Extensive knowledge of distributed systems, microservices architecture, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and RESTful APIs.
  • Proficiency in server-side software development using Golang or other languages (e.g., Rust, C++, C#, Java, Python).
  • Strong grasp of database design and modeling (e.g., PostgreSQL).
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working cohesively within a cross-functional team.
  • Experience with data-intensive applications, big data pipelines, and analytics tools such as Snowflake, DataBricks, Amplitude, and Looker.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, Helm, Docker, and ArgoCD.
  • Experience with Postgres, Redis, Kafka, and Airflow.
  • Knowledge of Android development, Flutter, and Kotlin.
  • Experience with Swift/SwiftUI.
  • Experience working with remote teams.
  • Integration experience with payment platforms.
  • Interest in the fitness sector.

Compensation
