About the Role

The Mental Health Outreach Coordinator will work closely with emergency responders to engage individuals who have overdosed on a substance. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mental illness, substance use disorders, and the principles of recovery.

This role requires a high level of emotional intelligence, empathy, and communication skills. The successful candidate will be able to build rapport with individuals in crisis and support them in accessing treatment options.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel with emergency responders to respond to overdose calls in Montgomery County
  • Engage individuals in crisis using person-centered skills and motivational interviewing techniques
  • Coordinate care and deliver warm hand-offs to medical professionals and substance use disorder treatment professionals
  • Communicate with Mobile Crisis leadership regarding follow-up care needs for individuals receiving overdose support
  • Provide de-escalation on scene as needed to support successful engagement and follow-up care
  • Act as the point person for relational partnership with the Department of Public Safety Mobile Integrated Health team
  • Keep required electronic health record documentation
  • Partner with other emergency responders on scene, including police and EMTs, and identify treatment options for individuals willing to receive treatment
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance and work scheduled overtime or be available for unplanned overtime as necessary
