Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

In this pivotal role, you will oversee the creation and execution of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives and frameworks to ensure adherence to applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations, alongside MicroVention-Terumo's policies and strategic objectives. Your work will span both manufacturing and research environments, with a strong emphasis on employee health and safety programs, including emergency preparedness, incident management, ergonomics, machine safety, chemical handling, change management, industrial hygiene, and biosafety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain effective EHS systems, programs, and processes that align with local, federal, and state regulations.
  • Collaborate with various business units to ensure compliance with safety and environmental practices.
  • Set EHS goals and objectives, providing support for their implementation across the organization.
  • Establish and report on EHS performance metrics to management.
  • Act as the primary contact for EHS emergencies; maintain the emergency action plan; coordinate training for the Emergency Response Team and conduct emergency drills.
  • Conduct EHS assessments for new chemicals, product development, facility modifications, and equipment transfers.
  • Facilitate incident investigations and root cause analyses, working with Human Resources and Workers' Compensation for accurate recordkeeping.
  • Manage EHS responsibilities including job safety analyses, program reviews, and employee training.
  • Perform regular compliance inspections and internal audits.
  • Obtain and maintain necessary environmental permits, licenses, and documentation.
  • Lead the Safety Committee and evaluate the impact of proposed regulations on site operations.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, or a related field, or a degree in an unrelated field with relevant experience.
  2. A minimum of four years of professional experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety, including at least three years in a manufacturing or plant setting.
  3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities.
  4. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

Preferred Attributes

  1. Experience working closely with Senior Leadership, Supervisors, and Production staff.
  2. In-depth knowledge of state and federal EHS regulations, management systems, emergency action plans, and ergonomics.
  3. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  4. Ability to communicate sensitive issues effectively.
  5. Adaptability and teamwork skills.
  6. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and daily tasks efficiently.
