GENERAL JOB OVERVIEW
The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is tasked with overseeing, coordinating, and executing the daily operations necessary to ensure a safe, efficient, and effective transit service. This role is crucial in maintaining a secure and productive work environment while adhering to all regulatory standards. The supervisor is accountable for vehicle upkeep, facility management, and the oversight of utility personnel and services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Cultivates strong working relationships and communication with the General Manager, colleagues, and team members.

• Responsible for the recruitment, training, management, and development of maintenance and utility staff.

• Prioritizes daily tasks for maintenance and utility teams.

• Develops and implements a preventative maintenance strategy.

• Oversees facility maintenance responsibilities as needed.

• Establishes and maintains a comprehensive record-keeping system for all vehicle maintenance activities.

• Conducts inspections and repairs on vehicles and equipment to ensure compliance with operational standards.

• Plans, develops, and executes innovative methods and procedures aimed at enhancing operations, reducing costs, and optimizing labor and material use.

• Responsible for formulating and recommending specifications for new vehicles and equipment.

• Manages vendor relationships and procurement processes for the acquisition of tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for operations.

• Operates within the allocated budget for divisions.

• Manages inventory of equipment and parts.

• Demonstrates the ability to foster effective relationships with contractors, vendors, and stakeholders.

• Prepares capital planning documentation for technical specifications related to RFPs.

• Ensures compliance with regulatory standards (DOT, FTA, and state regulations) and oversees reporting related to hazardous waste management, coordinating responses to hazardous situations.

• Generates monthly reports on designated key performance indicators.

• Oversees the Maintenance Management System utilized by RATP Dev, including end-of-month reporting, daily fuel and odometer updates, and monitoring of preventative maintenance performance, parts inventory management, and daily reconciliation of work orders.

• Engages with other agency software solutions as necessary.

• Responsible for the repair of transit buses, trucks, automobiles, and related equipment, including the installation and removal of engines, transmissions, and other components.

• Conducts preventive maintenance inspections and repairs in accordance with operational contracts.

• Responds to emergency road calls and may operate all agency vehicles and equipment.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Effectively addresses passenger communications and concerns during road calls.

• May require limited travel for parts management and vehicle inspections.

• Collaborates with operations and administrative teams to meet agency needs and provide support and training in the mechanically sound operation of vehicles.

• May be utilized during revenue hours if operational demands necessitate.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree, vocational degree with relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience, preferably in the public transit or transportation sector.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 5 years in maintenance management or supervisory roles within transit, with at least 2 years as a senior-level diesel mechanic required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Experience collaborating with local governments or municipalities is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards in relevant areas: FTA, FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, Homeland Security, and other state/local regulatory bodies.
  • Must reside within a reasonable distance from the work facility.
  • Must provide standard diesel mechanic tools to supplement agency maintenance.
  • CDL Class B with P Endorsement/Airbrakes required or must obtain within a specified timeframe.
