Position Overview

The Culinary Service Associate role is situated within the Nutrition & Food Service department of the Veterans Health Administration. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities that may include food preparation, cleaning of kitchenware, managing storage areas, and serving meals.

Eligibility Criteria

This opportunity is exclusively available to current employees of the Veterans Health Administration.

Key Responsibilities

The Culinary Service Associate will perform essential tasks that require a solid understanding of food service operations, including but not limited to:
  • Organizing and preparing designated workstations with necessary supplies and food items;
  • Portioning food items accurately using appropriate utensils;
  • Determining suitable food items for common dietary needs based on provided guidelines;
  • Offering basic nutritional information to patients regarding their dietary options;
  • Identifying and addressing discrepancies between prescribed diets and available food items;
  • Following established procedures for assembling and preparing food items while maintaining hygiene standards;
  • Delivering meal trays to patients and communicating any feedback to supervisors;
  • Assisting chefs in food preparation tasks, including labeling and organizing completed dishes;
  • Preparing various cold dishes and beverages for patient consumption;
  • Conducting final checks on meal trays prepared by junior staff for accuracy and temperature;
  • Engaging in various kitchen functions such as food preparation, cleaning, and serving;
  • Executing thorough cleaning duties in food service areas;
  • Carrying out additional tasks as assigned.
Work Schedule: Varied shifts including early mornings and evenings, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must demonstrate relevant experience or training that showcases their ability to fulfill the duties outlined.

Additional Information

Participation in health and safety programs is mandatory for all personnel within the Veterans Health Administration.
