Job Responsibilities

The RN Clinical Nurse is responsible for delivering thorough nursing care through proficient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation in alignment with facility or departmental policies and protocols under the guidance of nursing leadership. The RN Clinical Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe work environment and executes all job-related duties safely. This role requires maintaining clinical and professional competency relevant to the patient population served. The practice of a registered nurse is directed by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Gathering relevant data and information regarding the health of healthcare consumers or specific situations.
  2. Evaluating assessment data to identify actual or potential diagnoses, problems, and issues.
  3. Establishing expected outcomes for a personalized care plan for the healthcare consumer or situation.
  4. Formulating a plan that outlines strategies to achieve expected, measurable outcomes.
  5. Executing the established plan, coordinating care delivery, and employing strategies to enhance health and ensure a safe environment.
  6. Delegating care elements to appropriate healthcare personnel in accordance with applicable legal or policy standards.
  7. Assessing progress towards achieving goals and outcomes.
  8. Practicing ethically and in accordance with principles of cultural diversity and inclusion.
  9. Communicating effectively across all areas of practice.
  10. Collaborating with healthcare consumers and other key stakeholders in nursing practice.
  11. Exhibiting leadership within the professional practice setting and the nursing profession.
  12. Pursuing knowledge and competence that reflects contemporary nursing practices and encourages forward-thinking.
  13. Integrating evidence and research findings into nursing practice.
  14. Contributing to the enhancement of quality nursing practices.

Physical Requirements

This role necessitates walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling. The ability to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds is essential for handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. Proficiency in English communication is required. The candidate must possess intact senses of sight, hearing, smell, and touch, along with finger dexterity and critical thinking skills. Quick responsiveness to changes in patient and/or unit conditions is necessary. Physical Abilities Testing may be required, with additional department-specific physical requirements identified by the nursing leader.

Education, Training, and Experience

A graduate from an accredited School of Nursing is required; a BSN is preferred. Eligibility for advancement is based on the Nurse Career Professional Program. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is mandatory. A current RN license or temporary license as a Registered Nurse Petitioner in the state of practice is required. For states under the National License Compact (NLC), the candidate must meet the licensure requirements of their home state. Additional education, training, certifications, or experience may be mandated within the department by the nursing leader.
