Job Summary

The Academic Counselor position at Penn State University is a critical role in supporting student-athletes' academic success. As a member of the Morgan Academic Center (MAC) team, you will work closely with the Associate Director to provide academic support and counseling services to assigned student-athletes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate academic support and counseling services for student-athletes, including tracking and monitoring academic progress and eligibility.
  • Communicate student-athlete academic progress to coaching staffs, athletic administration, and the MAC Director.
  • Teach a section of the student-athlete first-year seminar course as part of the Penn State Alumni Association First-Year Enrichment Program.
  • Refer student-athletes to other University resources as needed.
  • Meet with prospective student-athletes and families throughout the recruiting process.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director and Associate Director, requiring collaboration with the MAC Associate Director, MAC Assistant Director, and various University staff.
  • Work evening and weekend hours, including study hall programs and recruiting.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in counselor education, college student personnel, psychology, social work, education, higher education administration, or a related field, plus one year of related experience.
  • Ability to maintain strict adherence to NCAA and Big Ten Conference rules and regulations.
Clearances

This position requires PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.

The salary range for this position is $46,400.00 - $67,300.00, with additional information on Penn State's job and salary structure available.
