Job Summary

Lone Star College is seeking a highly motivated and organized Academic Advising Specialist to join our team. As an Academic Advising Specialist, you will provide academic advising to students, ensuring they have a clear understanding of their academic goals and develop a plan to achieve them. You will also provide operational support within the department, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic advising to students, including course selection, degree planning, and transfer equivalency
  • Assist students in determining course transferability to state, public, and private institutions
  • Determine proper course of action for student conflicts on course scheduling, degree plans, and transfer equivalency
  • Provide basic financial aid information for new, transfer, and returning students
  • Listen to student concerns and determine if they need referral to other departments
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
Working Conditions

The work is sedentary, and the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
