Library Systems & Services is in search of a dedicated full-time STEAM Program Coordinator, focusing on the development and facilitation of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) initiatives and Makerspace programming.

This role entails spearheading the creation, execution, and promotion of inventive STEAM programs and services, aimed at enhancing creativity, critical thinking, and digital literacy among patrons.

Key Responsibilities:

An individual must be capable of executing each key responsibility effectively.

STEAM Program Development and Makerspace Oversight:

  • Design educational initiatives catering to diverse technology and skill levels.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders, educators, and STEAM experts to develop engaging and pertinent programming.
  • Supervise the operations of the Makerspace, ensuring it is functional and accessible to all users.
  • Manage the equipment, resources, and technology within the Makerspace, including 3D printers, robotics kits, coding software, and other STEAM tools.
  • Assist and support patrons utilizing the Makerspace.
  • Provide training and guidance to library staff and volunteers on STEAM-related subjects, resources, and technologies.
  • Gather and analyze data to assess the impact of STEAM programs and services.

Outreach and Promotion:

Enhance STEAM literacy and the Makerspace through outreach initiatives, marketing efforts, presentations, and collaborations with local educational institutions, community organizations, and businesses.

Circulation Support:

  • Engage with patrons at service desks, offering reference assistance, reading recommendations, and program information.
  • Deliver courteous and efficient customer service at the circulation desk, including checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, collecting fines, and shelving returned items.

Knowledge and Advancement:

Understand and uphold the principles of the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement, and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that access to information is a fundamental principle of public libraries. Additionally, support the discretion of clients regarding materials available at the library.

Adhere to all legal and policy requirements concerning patron privacy and the management of patron records.

Continuing Education and Professional Development:

  • Actively seek opportunities for professional growth to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in workshops, conferences, webinars, and training sessions related to library management, grant writing, and operations.
  • Share insights and best practices acquired through professional development activities with colleagues to cultivate a culture of learning and innovation within the library.

Requirements:

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined and meet the educational, training, and/or work experience criteria.

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Multilingual capabilities are a plus.
  • Two years of experience with Makerspace technology, technology instruction, or other creative-based roles preferred.
  • Strong understanding of STEAM concepts, principles, and educational trends.
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and public speaking skills.
  • Outstanding instructional and customer service abilities.
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment associated with a Makerspace.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Creative, innovative, and passionate about promoting STEAM literacy.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to frequently move throughout the location, file and retrieve books and other items from high shelves, and lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.

Compensation is set at $16.55/hr for a 40-hour work week.
