Position Overview

As a vital member of our retail team, Store Associates operate within various sections of a commissary store under the Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA). They are responsible for a range of tasks including the management, preparation, and display of grocery and produce items, as well as facilitating customer transactions. Duties may differ based on store-specific needs and management directives.

Important Information

This position is available to current DeCA employees with Career or Career Conditional status. Additional roles may be filled through this announcement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist customers by providing information regarding product pricing and locations, as well as managing heavy or bulky items.
  • Utilize an electronic checkout system to accurately process transactions and provide change.
  • Engage in various tasks related to the handling, preparation, and inventory management of grocery and produce items.
  • Monitor stock levels and collect inventory data to support the Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) system.
  • Prepare and manage documentation for ordering commissary items, reconciling invoices, and submitting requisitions.
  • Ensure adherence to security, safety, and sanitation protocols.

Requirements

Conditions of Employment
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national. Permanent residents are not eligible for positions requiring U.S. citizenship.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements.
  • Males born after must be registered with or exempt from Selective Service.
  • May undergo successful verification of identity and employment eligibility.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain clearance eligibility based on background investigations.
  • Direct deposit of pay is mandatory.
  • Must meet physical requirements as outlined in the Qualifications section.
Qualifications

Applicants must fulfill the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualifications for series 1101 and any additional requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Experience, education, or a combination of both may be used to qualify.

Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or related work demonstrating the ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for this position.

OR

Education: Two (2) full years of successfully completed education beyond high school from an accredited institution.

OR

Combination of experience and education: Calculate the combination by dividing total months of experience by 12, then dividing semester hours by 60 and adding the two percentages. If the total equals 100%, the minimum qualifications are met.

Additional Requirements:
  • Physical demands include standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing for extended periods, as well as lifting and handling items weighing up to 40 pounds independently.
  • Current federal employees must have completed at least 90 days of federal civilian service since being selected for a permanent appointment.
Overtime: Occasionally required

FLSA Status: Nonexempt
