About This Role:

Kansas State University is seeking a highly skilled Workforce Development Specialist to join our team. This full-time, benefits-eligible position is a key part of our KFS Fire Program, and the successful candidate will play a critical role in coordinating educational efforts for fire departments in Kansas.

The Workforce Development Specialist will lead efforts to develop and implement training programs, manage Incident Qualification System (IQS) records, and serve as a subject matter expert in wildland fire management. This position requires strong organizational skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to engage diverse audiences.

This is a hybrid remote position with at least one day per week at the KFS State Office in Manhattan, KS. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic team that works with local, state, and federal partners to achieve our mission of sustaining and enhancing natural resources and communities through forestry and wildland fire management.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement training programs for fire departments in Kansas
  • Manage IQS records and develop agency standards for IQS entry
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in wildland fire management
  • Assist KFS with training and development needs for employees across all programs
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • One year of experience in developing and implementing formal training programs
  • Working knowledge of the National Wildland Fire Incident Qualification System
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
