Overview:
The Production Shift Leader is accountable for overseeing the comprehensive operations of the facility to fulfill client demands and organizational objectives. This role involves managing the activities of hourly staff to optimize expenses while ensuring adherence to quality and delivery standards.
Shift Schedule:
The standard shift hours are Monday to Friday from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM. During peak periods, shifts may extend until midnight. While we strive to maintain consistent schedules, flexibility is essential to meet business requirements. This position reports directly to the Converting Superintendent.

Key Responsibilities of the Production Shift Leader:
  • Supervising hourly employees by monitoring operational procedures, as well as the quality and quantity of output, while reviewing and approving production runs and quality documentation.
  • Addressing potential safety risks promptly; maintaining cleanliness; and adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.
  • Delegating tasks and responsibilities to team members.
  • Verifying that the initial setup aligns with the specifications outlined in the Factory Work Order.
  • Making informed decisions regarding the quality of materials and finished products.
  • Establishing work schedules and coordinating orders on machinery.
  • Developing work methods and procedures, and providing training and development for hourly staff.
  • Conducting regular team meetings to discuss issues, provide feedback on quality and performance, deliver training, and work on continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Interpreting company policies and resolving employee grievances and work-related issues.
  • Evaluating the performance of team members and assisting them in their professional growth.
  • Implementing corrective actions for quality enhancement and cost reduction.
  • Performing minor maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Preparing reports and documentation in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Analyzing operational performance daily and taking necessary corrective measures.
  • Maintaining effective communication with maintenance, scheduling, management, and other supervisors.
  • Meeting or surpassing performance targets set in collaboration with the production manager.
  • Continuously enhancing knowledge and understanding of business and production processes.
  • Initiating repairs or replacements for cutting dies and/or printing plates.
  • Approving all sick leave and vacation requests.
  • Managing disciplinary actions in conjunction with HR.
  • Proactively identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
  • Understanding the fundamentals of shipping and receiving processes.
  • May be required to assist in production roles during labor shortages.
  • May be required to cover shifts for other supervisors as necessary.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5 years of combined industrial experience and/or education beyond high school is required.
  • A college degree is strongly preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the manufacturing of corrugated shipping containers is required.
  • Experience in a leadership role is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.
Knowledge Requirements:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding.
  • Technical knowledge of box manufacturing, printing, and die-cutting processes.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Understanding of cost management and profitability.
  • Familiarity with current total quality management theories and practices.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Certifications:
  • Forklift certification is required.
