Middle School Health Care Provider

The Building Nurse is a critical member of the Watertown-Mayer Middle School team, responsible for providing and implementing direct and indirect healthcare to students in an educational setting. This role requires a strong understanding of nursing principles and practices, as well as the ability to assess, implement, and evaluate the health of students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess student health care status and needs, and administer appropriate nursing care procedures utilizing applicable protocols, procedures, and care plans.
- Manage and administer medications for students, and develop and implement the health care component for IEP students.
- Collaborate with school officials and community resources to improve services to students, and develop and maintain applicable health records.
- Develop Individualized Health Plans (IHPs) for students with known health conditions that require interventions during the school day, and develop emergency care plans for students with known health conditions.
- Manage and implement school screening programs, and survey, report, and assist in the prevention and control of communicable diseases in accordance with District policies.
- Provide classroom instruction related to health and wellness under the supervision of a licensed school nurse, and perform other duties of a similar nature or level assigned by the District Licensed School Nurse.
- Licensed by the State of Minnesota as a Nurse, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
- Valid License by the State of Minnesota as a Nurse.
- Nursing principles and practices, clinical assessment methods, medication management and administration principles, communicable illnesses and diseases, and public health principles, including community education.
- Assessing, implementing, and evaluating the health of students, managing medications and treatments, identifying and referring special needs students, preparing business communications, administering emergency care, administering hearing and vision screenings, developing and implementing safety, first aid, and emergency plans, identifying and tracking communicable disease outbreaks, preparing and maintaining health records, monitoring and maintaining health service supplies, maintaining confidentiality, facilitating classroom instruction, and preparing newsletters and/or other informational communications.
- Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Incumbents may be subjected to fumes, odors, blood, and other bodily fluids, and travel.
