Job Overview

BD Holt Company is seeking a skilled Caterpillar Field Service Technician to join our team. This role involves performing high-quality repair work on heavy machinery, ensuring customer satisfaction through timely and effective service.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in diesel-powered heavy equipment repair in a field setting is preferred.
  • Certifications such as MSHA, air conditioning, and crane/rigger are advantageous.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with completion of a diesel technology program.

Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Must successfully pass a DOT physical examination.
  • Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must have necessary mechanic hand tools and pneumatic tools.
  • Willingness to travel, including potential overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to safety protocols and company policies at all times.
  • Conduct minor repairs and troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose equipment malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
  • Remove and install parts, and conduct assembly and disassembly of components.
  • Test and verify the proper operation of all repairs.
  • Complete job-related documentation and maintain accurate customer records.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles in compliance with all licensing requirements.
  • Maintain service vehicle inspection records and adhere to DOT regulations.
  • Ensure all company tools and equipment are kept in good working order.
  • Communicate job progress effectively to supervisors and customers.
  • Meet productivity standards and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development programs.
  • Exhibit professionalism in all interactions with customers and colleagues.
  • Attend work regularly and punctually.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures.
  • Familiarity with equipment design, usage, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of hydraulic systems, transmissions, engines, and electrical components.
  • Proficiency in using current computer software and basic electronic systems.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Basic diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate cranes and forklifts, and obtain necessary certifications.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and maneuvering heavy objects.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Frequent movement and use of limbs, requiring good manual dexterity.
  • Capability to climb ladders and work at heights safely.
  • Ability to work in various environmental conditions.
  • Regularly respond to visual and auditory signals, including alarms and instructions.
