Responsibilities- Administer basic life support in emergencies for patients and staff.
- Safely utilize medical equipment and perform intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections, as well as skin tests.
- Conduct eye and ear washes, administer prescribed medications topically, sublingually, and orally, and provide basic breathing treatments.
- Remove casts, splints, sutures, and external medical devices, change simple dressings, and collect blood via capillary and venipuncture methods.
- Gather lab specimens with proper equipment and labeling, record vital signs, and conduct basic vision tests when required.
- Carry out CLIA-waived point-of-care testing to assess a patient's physical condition, demonstrate the use of healthcare appliances, and attend to the physical comfort of patients.
- Provide therapeutic interventions for physical/behavioral adaptive skills, explain treatment procedures and medical instructions to patients and staff, and identify patients with disabilities for appropriate accommodations.
- Safeguard patients' personal belongings securely, assist and follow provider orders during medical exams and treatments, and interview patients to gather medical information and prepare them for medical exams.
- Observe, document, and report clinical symptoms and behaviors, including medical history, test results, and vitals, and maintain medical information confidentiality.
- Implement universal precautions for infection control, recognize and report potential security breaches or behaviors indicating incidents, and schedule patients, manage medical clinic and office supplies, and assist staff with utensil counting.
- Active Medical Assistant Certificate from a California Department of Consumer Affairs-approved agency for MA practice.
- At least 12 consecutive months of performing similar services within the last 3 years.
- BLS certification is issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (with AED).
- Must be proficient in the English Language (Speaking/Writing).
- Must be certified by one of the following boards: AAMA / AMT /CCBMA and AMCA.
