Job Description Summary
The Accounting Director serves as a key member of the Finance Leadership Team, providing strategic leadership to the accounting activities within the finance area of Wycliffe Bible Translators. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for establishing, monitoring, and enforcing financial policies and procedures, ensuring good stewardship of God-given financial resources, team management, problem-solving, and high-level customer service experience.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and optimize financial performance.
  • Provides financial analysis and insights to support business decisions, identifying areas for improvement and recommending solutions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly and year-end close, and coordinates audits as required.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic plans, aligning financial goals with organizational objectives.
  • Supervises the design and operation of accounting systems, including chart of accounts, financial reporting systems, and internal control systems.
  • Engages in critical and confidential aspects of accounting, maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
  • Oversees the accounting process, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Supports the annual budget process, coordinating data entry, budget data compilation, and importation into the financial system.
  • Acts as a liaison for Wycliffe's business banking relationships and administers online banking services.
  • Maintains and responds to questions about corporate policies concerning budget, credit cards, cell phones, travel, and expense.
  • Monitors and analyzes budgets for accounting activities, identifying areas for improvement and recommending solutions.
  • Analyzes records of past and present operations to evaluate policies and procedures, initiating changes and improvements as necessary.
  • Stays up-to-date with information and technology affecting functional areas, increasing innovation and ensuring compliance.
  • Represents the organization to the business community, promoting Wycliffe's mission and values.
  • Participates in cross-organizational planning, project work, and communication, championing organizational culture standards.
  • Organizational Representative: Presents the global ministry of Wycliffe, encouraging interested individuals and churches to participate in this work, maintaining an exemplary standard of ethics and conduct.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Coordinates direct or indirect supervisory responsibilities for small staff, adhering to the ministry's policies and applicable laws.
  • Travel Requirements: Some travel may be expected for this position.
  • Member Responsibilities: The following responsibilities apply to any employee who is also a member of the religious organization: Partnership Development - Build and retain a team of prayer and financial partners to sustain them during their entire Wycliffe ministry.
Minimum Skill Sets (KSAs):
  • Spiritual Bona Fide Occupational Qualification (BFOQ): Demonstrates desire and ability to support corporate Biblical and religious goals, participating in regular work-related spiritual activities without reservation.
  • Ability to oversee significant resources and identify and resolve complex problems in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge expert in the area of accounting practices, policies, and principles, recognizing broader implications to application of decisions to stakeholders.
  • Skilled as an energetic leader in building, maintaining, coaching, and encouraging a strong team.
  • Highly effective at relationship-building and influencing senior leadership, partnering effectively as a team player.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge and understanding of accounting and ERP software.
Education & Experience:
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree plus five years of experience in corporate accounting, finance, and/or business management; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain licensing as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or equivalent in the State of Florida.
  • Previous experience as a successful manager and collaborator.
  • Nonprofit ministry volunteer or work experience is also beneficial.
