Inspector Position Overview

We are currently seeking an Inspector to oversee projects in various regions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Independently plan, coordinate, and supervise inspection activities related to roadway, structure, and bridge maintenance projects.
  • Monitor contractors and project timelines to ensure adherence to quality control standards and contract specifications for moderately complex construction endeavors.
  • Utilize expertise in the inspection of roadways and bridges, adhering to VDOT standards, specifications, and procedures.
  • Implement engineering principles in the assessment and documentation of construction activities.
  • Propose modifications to construction plans to align with field conditions or to achieve cost efficiencies.
  • Review and ensure compliance with EEO/DBE documentation as per contract requirements.
  • Oversee and evaluate the performance of Inspectors and Inspector Trainees.
  • Maintain detailed project records and documentation utilizing VDOT Materials Book and project management software, including VDOT Site Manager.
  • Conduct material testing in accordance with VDOT testing protocols.
  • Apply Best Management Practices to environmental inspection activities, following DEQ standards and specifications.
  • Implement Best Management Practices for safety-related activities.
  • Engage with various stakeholders, including local authorities and VDOT representatives.
  • Assist in the formulation of change orders, investigations, and the analysis of Notices of Intent to File Claims.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in roadway or bridge construction inspection.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain the following certifications:
    • ACI
    • Hydraulic Cement Concrete Field - VDOT
    • Soils and Aggregate - VDOT
    • ESC Inspector - DEQ
    • SWM Inspector - DEQ
    • Pavement Marking - VDOT
    • Intermediate Work Zone - VDOT
    • Flagger - VDOT
    • Guardrail Installation (GRIT) - VDOT
    • Asphalt Field Levels I and II - VDOT
    • Slurry Surfacing - VDOT
    • Surface Treatment - VDOT
    • 10-hour OSHA Safety
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Proficient in operating computer systems, software applications including Microsoft Office Suite, and field-testing equipment.
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including day and night shifts.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
