Job Overview

The Western Digital System Integration Test (SIT) Lab is on the lookout for a seasoned engineer with over eight years of experience to fill the role of Performance Characterization Test Engineer. This lab is dedicated to conducting thorough testing across Western Digital's extensive enterprise product lineup, focusing on storage systems, subsystems, and device-level evaluations.

This role will primarily concentrate on hard disk drive (HDD) testing and ensuring interoperability within a continuously operating testing framework.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage in performance analysis of Western Digital storage solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with development engineering and customer technical support to validate product design quality and ensure seamless operation within customer environments.
  • Configure testing systems, monitor and analyze drive logs, performance metrics, system logs, and bus signals to assess testing progress.
  • Identify, analyze, and document issues as they arise, potentially developing and maintaining test scripts and automation tools.
  • Create test schedules, compile detailed performance reports, and effectively communicate updates both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications:

Required:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science, accompanied by eight or more years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency in performing detailed analyses of failure and performance data, along with the ability to independently troubleshoot hardware and software issues to identify root causes.
  • Capability to manage dynamic test scheduling and reallocation of resources as needed.
Essential Skills:
  • Expertise in data analysis.
  • Familiarity with Windows and UNIX/Linux server storage environments.
  • Proficient in application-level scripting/programming (e.g., Perl, Tcl, Python).
  • Understanding and debugging of interface protocols (SATA, SAS).
  • A proactive approach to tackling complex challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills and foresight in planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Comfortable discussing technical topics with both customers and internal teams.
