Exterior Systems Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Exterior Systems Engineer to join our team at Ford Motor Company. As an Exterior Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing large exterior trims within the vehicle architecture, ensuring Class A surface and design directions are met.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and package large exterior trims, integrating technical, feasibility, manufacturing, and program requirements into the exterior design and theme development.
- Transfer engineering and key regulatory requirements to design, providing feasibility and technical input, and limitations feedback.
- Generate concept alternatives and feasible solutions for technically challenging areas in design, considering functional and program assumptions.
- Own CAD and BOM for systems and components, delivering system and component design, including surface development, structures, datum strategy, attachments, and GD&T.
- Interpret aerodynamics and CAE simulation, test results, and integrate recommendations into exterior design.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure system manufacturing, assembly feasibility, and serviceability, supporting vehicle development milestones and prototype/production build events.
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience working on production vehicle development and launch for large exterior trims.
- 6+ years of experience utilizing CAD (3DX, Catia, NX, ICEMSURF, or Alias) collaboratively, designing exterior trims with injection molding, compression molding, and other related processes.
- 6+ years of experience in exterior systems design, development, release for fascia, rocker panel, front end module, or related systems.
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, with experience designing exterior trim components and assemblies.
- Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, compression molding, composites, paint, and other surface finishes.
- Strong understanding of differences in design and engineering based on production volume and functional and cosmetic features.
- Strong familiarity with legislative requirements affecting design feasibility.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, craftsmanship, and CMF, and how design execution would be affected.
- Experience in working on automotive Class A surface feasibility assessment and development, vehicle layout/package, including body structures, exteriors, closures, glazing.
- Hands-on experience in building and launching automotive products.
