Position Summary

The Lead Structural Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and execution of structural engineering projects. This role involves tackling intricate challenges where thorough analysis of situations or data is essential. The engineer will explore various solutions and apply sound judgment in choosing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to achieve results that align with broadly defined policies and practices.

Resolution of problems or tasks may take from a few months to over a year, depending on complexity. The engineer will work with a degree of autonomy, determining and developing strategies for solutions. Performance is assessed upon completion to ensure that objectives have been achieved.

This position requires frequent interaction with internal teams and external clients or vendors. The engineer will be part of a collaborative team representing the organization, monitoring activities, and sharing information across departments.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Structural Engineer IV
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of fundamental engineering principles, material characteristics, and familiarity with construction, installation, and maintenance processes.
  • Estimate costs and timelines for proposed projects.
  • Contribute to defining project budgets and scopes.
Lead Structural Engineer III
  • Plan and execute work requiring critical judgment in evaluating, selecting, and significantly adapting standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Prepare studies, reports, plans, cost estimates, specifications for bidding and construction, and review shop drawings.
  • Receive technical guidance on unusual or complex issues and obtain supervisory approval for proposed project plans.
Lead Structural Engineer II
  • Provide daily guidance and answers to project teams and/or other departmental staff. Review all technical work for precision. Identify problems promptly and seek advice as needed.
  • May assist in proposal preparation and client presentations.
  • Conduct structural design for various materials including concrete, masonry, wood, and steel. Innovate new solutions to encountered challenges.
Structural Engineer I
  • Execute complex design calculations and custom detailing.
  • Guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to junior engineers.
  • May assist in proposal preparation and client presentations.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications by Job Level
  • Lead Structural Engineer IV - Bachelor's Degree/Continuing Education; PE license; ten (10) years of experience.
  • Lead Structural Engineer III - Bachelor's Degree/Continuing Education; PE license; twelve (12) years of experience.
  • Lead Structural Engineer II - Bachelor's Degree/Continuing Education; PE license; fourteen (14) years of experience.
  • Structural Engineer I - Bachelor's Degree/Continuing Education; PE license; fifteen (15) years of experience.
