Amentum is currently seeking a Supervising Discipline Engineer (SDE).

This position entails overseeing a range of engineering responsibilities from the initial planning stages to the final design phase for complex projects. The SDE will leverage their technical expertise in electrical projects while managing the electrical engineering team to fulfill customer and project specifications concerning scope, timelines, and budgets. This role serves as a critical link between discipline engineers and Project Managers regarding project scope, financials, scheduling, and overall engineering and design requirements. The SDE will report directly to the Chief Discipline Engineer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that engineering documentation adheres to relevant state laws and regulations, including the necessary affixing of a registered engineer seal when applicable.
  • Facilitate coordination between the electrical discipline and other engineering disciplines.
  • Maintain comprehensive records, files, and documentation related to the electrical discipline.
  • Delegate tasks to preparers and checkers for electrical discipline specifications and oversee the review of external specifications.
  • Establish project schedules and budgets to meet requirements and secure necessary approvals.
  • Ensure technical alignment with the Principal Engineer to comply with industry codes, regulatory standards, and best engineering practices.
  • Direct the preparation and submission of regular reports and forecasts regarding the status of the electrical discipline.
  • Fulfill state requirements for continuing education and maintain necessary licenses as required.
  • Continuously enhance technical knowledge and skills, pursuing additional training and coursework.
  • Advise the Project Engineering Manager on the status of assignments concerning schedules, budgets, delays, and challenges.
  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Electrical Engineer and Project Engineering Managers on employee evaluations, promotions, and overall technical advancement of the team.
  • Lead the development of manpower, man-hour, and labor cost projections for projects, monitoring their impact on budgets.
  • Oversee all aspects of electrical estimating.
  • Manage performance and provide mentorship to team members.
  • Support projects in addressing technical challenges related to process enhancements.
  • Assist in training and mentoring other team members.
  • Contribute to the development of training programs within areas of expertise and conduct training sessions as needed.
  • Foster positive working relationships with peer leaders.
  • Build productive relationships with internal and external organizations related to engineering.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four-year institution.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in electrical engineering/design within industrial sectors such as Oil & Gas, DOE, DOD, or power projects.
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing or supervising medium to large electrical design teams.
  • Advanced experience in physical design, control, protection, metering, and communication requirements for facilities, including specifying and sizing electrical equipment, power system analysis, and utility interfaces.
  • Strong understanding of Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Architectural, and Instrumentation disciplines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; proficient in word-processing and integrated software applications; strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
  • Advanced knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • A Professional Engineer License (PE) is required, along with the ability to obtain a license in the assigned state.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance may be required.
  • US Citizenship is mandatory; dual citizenship is not permitted.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Local candidates are preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD MEP, MicroStation, and/or Revit design software.
  • Experience in project design for government facilities (DOE, DOD, Army Corps of Engineers).
Compensation & Benefits

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $125k - $165k (Salary will be determined based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, as well as internal equity and market alignment.)
