POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Science Outreach Center seeks a dynamic individual to oversee the development, execution, and evaluation of educational programming. This role includes managing daily operations, supervising student staff, and stepping into a leadership position when necessary. Responsibilities also encompass monitoring event participation and budget management, along with additional tasks as assigned.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Educational Programming (35%): Design, implement, and assess lab experiences aligned with South Carolina K-12 science standards. Stay informed on current educational practices and evaluate existing programs while innovating new offerings. Incorporate technology and hands-on learning into educational activities.
- Mentorship (30%): Participate in regular team meetings, leading discussions in the absence of the director. Facilitate planning and organization of materials, manage time effectively, and track progress on assignments. Act as a communication bridge for the director, providing updates on student staff performance.
- Collaboration and Outreach (15%): Build and maintain partnerships with state science education organizations, university departments, and community groups to enhance program visibility and participation.
- Laboratory Oversight (15%): Organize and manage inventory of chemicals, biological materials, and equipment. Provide training on lab equipment and safety protocols.
- Financial Oversight (5%): Monitor event reservations and manage the budget to ensure compliance with university policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum: Bachelor's Degree and at least 1 year of relevant program experience.
- Preferred: Master's Degree in Science Education or a related scientific field, with 5+ years of teaching experience in science.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Demonstrated knowledge of educational concepts and practices, with the ability to apply them in diverse situations. Experience in guiding and supervising others in similar roles is essential.
PHYSICAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to stand for extended periods, engage in physical activities related to laboratory management, and communicate effectively in various settings.
COMPENSATION:
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, with a focus on recognizing the skills and qualifications of the candidate.
