Position Overview

The San Diego County Office of Education is seeking a qualified Early Childhood Special Education Instructor for the Early Education sector within the Learning and Leadership division. This role focuses on delivering specialized instruction aimed at enhancing caregiver-child interactions during daily activities and routines, which is essential for effective early intervention for infants and toddlers experiencing developmental delays or disabilities.

The Early Childhood Special Education Instructor serves as the primary service provider, engaging with families on a regular basis to collaborate on intervention strategies that align with Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) outcomes in the context of everyday routines. Alongside a multidisciplinary team, the instructor supports families in implementing these strategies to address their child's unique needs. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.

The HOPE Infant Family Support Program, part of the San Diego County Office of Education, offers family-centered, comprehensive, coordinated, relationship-based, interagency early intervention services to families of infants and toddlers with special needs.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in education, child development, early childhood, special education, or a related field, along with three (3) years of successful experience in early childhood programs catering to children with special needs. Experience working with infants and toddlers from birth to age three (3) is essential. Candidates should have a background in collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for assessments, writing IFSPs, and providing consultation and support to families of young children with disabilities.

Licenses and Credentials:
  • Valid California Education Specialist Credential in Early Childhood Special Education or another Special Education Credential authorizing instruction to infants and toddlers (ages birth to 3)
  • Proof of all required immunizations, including Measles and Pertussis vaccinations
  • Valid California Driver's License
