Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse-Perioperative is a seasoned nurse with a minimum of two years of experience, with at least one year in a specialty area such as Critical Care and Emergency Care. This per diem employee works less than an average of 24 hours per week and may be assigned to any licensed facility under Loma Linda University Health (LLUH). The ideal candidate will submit their work schedule availability and preferred department(s) within designated time frames.

Key Responsibilities
  • Function in a patient-centered care model of practice and perform the nursing process independently.
  • Apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expand knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in an area of specialty.
  • Embrace new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes.
  • Utilize discretion and independent judgment in applying the nursing process to the provision of age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient care.
  • Function in a skills mix environment and directly supervise and delegate tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff.
  • Meet qualifications, licensure/certifications, and competencies as defined in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing Care.
  • Utilize interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism.
  • Contribute to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or enrolled in BSN program preferred.
  • Minimum one year of clinical nursing experience in specialty area (e.g. critical care or emergency care) required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrates competencies in clinical nursing.
  • Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in an area of specialty.
  • Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities.
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math and statistical functions; compose written material; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail.
Licensures and Certifications
  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification as required in the Department Plan for Providing Care and may be obtained during orientation process.
