Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Clinical Nurse-MC Specialist (IRP) is a per diem employee who works less than an average of 24 hours per week. This role may be assigned to work in any licensed facility under Loma Linda University Health (LLUH). The nurse submits their work schedule availability and preferred department(s) within designated time frames. The Clinical Nurse-MC Specialist functions in a patient-centered care model of practice and performs the nursing process independently. They apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expand their knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in an area of specialty.
The nurse embraces new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. They utilize discretion and independent judgment in applying the nursing process to the provision of age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality patient care. The Clinical Nurse-MC Specialist functions in a skills mix environment and directly supervises and delegates tasks to licensed and unlicensed staff. They meet qualifications, licensure/certifications, and competencies as defined in the unit/department-specific Plan for Providing Care. The nurse utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service, safe patient care, and professionalism. They contribute to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. The Clinical Nurse-MC Specialist may be required to serve in a shift coordinator role upon completion of shift coordinator orientation. They perform other duties as needed.
Education and Experience:- Associate's Degree in Nursing required
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or enrolled in BSN program preferred
- Minimum one year of clinical nursing experience in specialty area (e.g. critical care or emergency care) required
- Demonstrates competencies in clinical nursing
- Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in an area of specialty
- Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities
- relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others
- be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies
- work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure
- lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate
- accept direction
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and/or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification as required in the Department Plan for Providing Care and may be obtained during orientation process
