Job Overview:


The Nursing Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting healthcare professionals in delivering quality care to patients throughout various stages of their medical journey, including but not limited to surgical, pediatric, psychiatric, and obstetric care.

This position encompasses a wide array of responsibilities within an inpatient environment, including both administrative and clinical tasks, in alignment with established protocols and regulations.


Key Responsibilities:


The primary duties involve providing essential healthcare services to eligible individuals as outlined in the agreements between the Cherokee Nation and federal authorities. Responsibilities include a range of personal nursing care and diagnostic support tasks, such as performing basic treatments, maintaining patient records, and offering educational support to patients. Additionally, the role includes providing preventive care reminders.

Personal nursing care tasks may consist of assisting with feeding, bathing, mobility, oral hygiene, and other aspects of personal care. The Nursing Assistant is responsible for recognizing and reporting significant changes in a patient's condition.

Diagnostic support responsibilities may involve monitoring vital signs, collecting and transporting laboratory specimens, and assisting healthcare providers during examinations by preparing patients and providing necessary instruments.

The role also includes changing simple dressings, applying basic treatments, and observing wound conditions, as well as assisting in the monitoring of patients undergoing various treatments. The Nursing Assistant will gather and document specific patient information, take vital signs, and perform EKGs when required. They will reinforce instructions provided by physicians and registered nurses, ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients. Additional clerical duties may include printing patient summaries, managing patient records, and maintaining inventory of medical supplies. Adherence to professional standards and ethical guidelines is essential, along with compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:


A high school diploma or equivalent is required; or six months of relevant experience; or a combination of education and experience.


Experience:
No prior experience is necessary.

Technical Skills:
Familiarity with database software, human resource systems, internet applications, order processing systems, and payroll systems is preferred.

Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred but not mandatory; it can be obtained during the orientation period.

Additional Requirements:


The employee must not be under any sanctions by relevant health authorities and must possess knowledge of medical terminology and maintain confidentiality regarding patient information.

Physical requirements include the ability to stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly, with occasional lifting of more than 100 pounds.


Work Environment:
Exposure to various environmental conditions is expected, including potential risks associated with electrical equipment and exposure to airborne particles. The noise level in the workplace is typically moderate.
