GENERAL OVERVIEW
Delivers professional nursing services to patients in alignment with the Cherokee Nation Health Services' mission, vision, and values, as well as the Oklahoma Board of Nursing regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administers patient care under the supervision of a healthcare provider and assists during medical examinations.
Conducts assessments and maintains documentation of patient conditions and vital statistics.
Implements therapeutic interventions as directed by the healthcare provider.
Evaluates, formulates, and executes nursing diagnoses and care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to adjust treatment plans based on patient responses and evolving conditions.
Delivers safe, effective, and evidence-based nursing care aimed at achieving specified health objectives.
Exhibits strong communication skills, encompassing interpersonal, verbal, written, and electronic methods. Demonstrates the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Designs, implements, and accurately documents patient education and teaching initiatives.
Oversees care provided by licensed practical nurses and unlicensed personnel in assigned or delegated tasks.
Safely operates and monitors both general and specialized medical equipment.
Shares responsibility for maintaining adequate supplies and equipment, ensuring the unit remains a safe environment.
Demonstrates outstanding leadership qualities and serves as a positive role model while upholding professional, ethical, and legal nursing standards.
Documentation of licensure and certifications, including renewals, must be submitted in accordance with employer policies.
Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
REQUIREMENTS
A minimum of an Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution is required; no exceptions.
No prior experience is necessary.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license from the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBN) or a multistate RN license recognized by the OBN, with no substitutions.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required during orientation and must be maintained throughout employment.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be obtained within six months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification must be obtained within six months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification must be obtained within six months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Depending on the specific inpatient department, additional certifications may be required:
Emergency Department
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) must be completed within 12 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) must be completed within 12 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
Triage Competency (minimum of one year of Emergency Department experience) is required before performing triage.
RECOMMENDED:
Electrocardiogram (ECG) Interpretation and Dysrhythmia Course should be completed within six months of hire and maintained annually.
Intensive Care Unit
Electrocardiogram (ECG) Interpretation and Dysrhythmia Course should be completed within six months of hire and maintained annually.
Medical-Surgical Unit
RECOMMENDED:
Electrocardiogram (ECG) Interpretation and Dysrhythmia Course should be completed within six months of hire and maintained annually.
Obstetrical Department
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) must be completed during the orientation period and maintained throughout employment.
Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) Fetal Monitoring Class must be completed within 12 months of hire or proof of completion within the last two years and maintained throughout employment.
RECOMMENDED:
Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, and Emotional Support (STABLE).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to manipulate objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and communicate verbally or audibly.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The employee must not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) and must not be listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
Work Hours:
Rotating shifts may include day or night.
