Job Title: Campus Sanitation and Maintenance Specialist

Position Overview:
Join Old Dominion University in a vital role dedicated to preserving the cleanliness and safety of our campus environment. As a Campus Sanitation and Maintenance Specialist, you will play a key part in enhancing the aesthetic appeal and operational safety of our grounds through dedicated public service and teamwork.

Responsibilities:
As a member of the Facilities Management team, your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Implementing effective sanitation and waste management practices.
  • Performing litter collection and utilizing small power and hand tools.
  • Ensuring personal safety and public health through proper chemical usage and hazardous material disposal.
  • Conducting pressure washing and street sweeping activities.
  • Assisting with seasonal services such as snow and ice removal, leaf collection, and stormwater management.
  • Identifying and mitigating vermin and insect activity.

Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
  • Basic knowledge of sanitation practices and grounds maintenance tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in computer usage.
  • Experience in horticulture or related fields is preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:
Applicants must hold a valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record. The ability to obtain an Aerial Lift Operator's Certification within the first year of employment is also required.

Work Environment:
This position requires working in various weather conditions and may involve working independently or as part of a team. Facilities Management employees are essential personnel and may be required to work during university closures.
