Position Overview:
As an essential member of the Eastern Virginia Medical School team, the Administrative Support Officer for Campus Safety is responsible for a variety of administrative functions that ensure the smooth operation of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
- This role is critical in maintaining safety standards, as the Administrative Support Officer has direct influence over the safety of personnel and the community, manages sensitive information, operates vehicles, and may carry defensive equipment.
- Conducts daily responsibilities involving the secure collection and delivery of financial documents from various departments to the designated financial offices.
- Supports the Training Lieutenant in managing training documentation, organizing training sessions, and facilitating educational programs for police personnel and the broader campus community.
- Assists the Police Investigator with both initial and follow-up inquiries as required.
- Collaborates with the Emergency Manager to conduct safety assessments, drills, and exercises, ensuring readiness for various emergency scenarios.
- Contributes to the development and revision of Emergency Operations, Evacuation, and Continuity of Operations plans.
- Works alongside the Emergency Manager and Physical Security Specialist to create and evaluate safety and security protocols for the campus.
- Maintains a comprehensive understanding of the campus layout to enhance operational efficiency.
- May be called upon to assist in patrol duties, providing support to Police Officers in various service requests, including vehicle assistance and incident response.
- Possesses knowledge of HIPAA regulations and understands the role of Campus Police and Public Safety in interactions with external agencies.
- Prepared to provide testimony in legal proceedings, as necessary, regarding actions taken in relation to relevant matters.
- Performs additional duties as assigned and adheres to the directives and policies established by the institution.
- Exemplifies the values of Eastern Virginia Medical School through professionalism, approachability, and a commitment to exceeding expectations.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or GED is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Police Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of two years of experience as a law enforcement officer or six months as a Police Officer 1 within the EVMS Department of Police and Public Safety is required.
Special Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening abilities.
- In-depth knowledge of the campus, including its geography, buildings, and community members.
- Familiarity with Virginia criminal laws and traffic regulations, with the ability to enforce them.
- Current certifications in first aid and CPR are necessary.
- Must meet or exceed standards set by DCJS and EVMS in various law enforcement techniques and equipment.
- Integrity, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills are essential.
- Demonstrates courage and composure in the face of potential danger.
Certifications and Licenses:
- Must be certified by the Virginia DCJS as a Basic Law Enforcement Officer.
- IAHSS basic certification is preferred.
