Job Overview

Position: Facilities Maintenance Specialist

Core Responsibilities

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is tasked with conducting regular inspections and evaluations of buildings to identify any equipment, facility, or service deficiencies and to determine suitable solutions. This role requires analyzing facility and equipment needs in relation to customer expectations. The specialist will perform maintenance and repair tasks utilizing hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Key Duties

  1. Repair or replace minor electrical components, including but not limited to fuses, plugs, various illumination bulbs, light fixtures, and other items necessary for the maintenance and operation of facilities.
  2. Conduct general repair or replacement tasks, such as window covering chains, door hardware, wall repairs, painting, and other upkeep activities as needed.
  3. Perform mechanical and plumbing repairs, including maintaining plumbing fixtures, and clearing clogged drain lines, excluding sewer lines.
  4. Execute preventive maintenance on HVAC systems, including filter changes and cleaning of air supply diffusers and exhaust grilles.
  5. Change filters on drinking fountains as required.
  6. Assist in relocating furniture within government-provided facilities.
  7. Engage in light groundskeeping to maintain the appearance of public and common areas, including edging, minor branch removal, and leaf blowing.
  8. Prepare for inclement weather in accordance with the MSC Destructive Weather Plan.
  9. Conduct snow removal on sidewalks and access points as designated by MSC Facilities.
  10. Ensure that all snow, debris, and hazards are cleared from entrances two hours prior to the arrival of nonessential personnel.
  11. Perform operational checks and preventive maintenance on safety equipment, including fire extinguishers and defibrillators, in compliance with base requirements.
  12. Notify supervisors when safety equipment is nearing replacement or expiration.
  13. Follow up on submitted work orders and ensure quality assurance.
  14. Maintain a historical record of all equipment repairs and work requests through the MSC work request submission program.
  15. Assist in the setup for special events and programs, ensuring cleanliness and orderliness of entrances and event sites.
  16. Complete reports, records, checklists, and operational logs as required.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Capability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, and heavier weights with appropriate equipment.
  • Vision and ability to read printed materials and computer screens.
  • Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and via telephone or radio.
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check, maintaining compliance throughout employment.

Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in maintenance-related roles.
  • Proficient in using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Active Secret Level security clearance is required.
