Position: Information Technology Technician (Full-Time, Permanent)

Duty Station: Rochester, New York

Salary: CL 25 ($48,184-$78,319) CL 26 ($53,070-$86,233) Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Promotion potential to CL 27, without further competition, based on eligibility and needs of the office.

Overview

Our Information Technology (IT) professionals play a crucial role in supporting extensive technology initiatives, ensuring the effective delivery of services in a technology-driven environment. These experts stay abreast of the latest advancements in technology and software applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver daily technical assistance, support, and training, including the physical setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of hardware and software in a virtual Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Address help desk inquiries via calls, emails, and web requests, resolving issues promptly or escalating as necessary.
  • Recognize support trends and respond to unusual activities or requests.
  • Provide guidance and assistance on word processing and internet applications.
  • Install, configure, update, and repair computer hardware and peripherals.
  • Implement new or updated software applications.
  • Maintain and prepare documentation for local software applications, procedures, and systems.
  • Support mobile computing devices and remote access solutions.
  • Offer basic support for the VoIP telephone system.
  • Assist in testing, establishing, and monitoring video and telephone conferencing.
  • Contribute to network maintenance and backup processes.
  • Perform basic audiovisual support and troubleshooting in courtroom settings.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of specialized experience.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of computer processes and capabilities, including personal computer operating systems and applications.
  • Familiarity with computer operations in a networked setting.
  • Working knowledge of word processing software and email applications.
  • Basic understanding of audiovisual systems, particularly videoconferencing.
  • Proficiency with iOS and Windows devices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, adapt to changing needs, and meet deadlines.
  • Capability to identify emerging technology trends and share insights with the team.
  • Ability to interact positively and professionally with users at all levels.
  • Position may require occasional travel and after-hours support.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with experience and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field are preferred.

Organizational Structure

This position is part of the Clerk's Office, U.S. District Court, Western District of New York, reporting to the Director of Information Technology.

This role is sensitive within the Judiciary. Employment will be provisional pending successful completion of a background check and a favorable suitability determination.
