Inpatient Speech Therapy Specialist

The role of the Speech Language Pathologist involves assessing patients and delivering tailored inpatient speech therapy treatment plans as directed by healthcare providers.
Collaboration and CommunicationThis position requires effective collaboration with the healthcare team to ensure patients transition smoothly to the most suitable level of post-acute or home care, aiming to meet specific patient goals.
QualificationsEducation:
Required - A Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.
Work Experience:
Required - None.
Certifications:
Required - A current Speech Pathologist license in the state of practice or eligibility for licensure by examination or reciprocity from another state.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) is required within two years of hire.
Proficiency in utilizing computers, software, and web-based applications is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary to convey information clearly and professionally to various stakeholders throughout the patient care process.
Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities are crucial, along with the capacity to interact with a diverse patient population. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to travel between facilities are also required.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Speech Language Pathologist will:
- Conduct evaluations and develop treatment programs to support patient-specific objectives.
- Monitor patient responses to treatment and suggest modifications to enhance outcomes and ensure safety.
- Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with documentation standards and institutional policies.
- Ensure that treatment protocols align with overall quality and safety targets of the healthcare facility.
- Adapt interactions to respect the unique needs of each patient, including privacy considerations and communication styles.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
This position involves physical demands that may require lifting and moving heavy objects, with exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues. The role is situated in a patient care environment, necessitating direct interaction with patients and potential exposure to communicable diseases.
As part of a healthcare setting, there may be risks associated with hazardous medications or waste. The level of exposure may vary based on the specific responsibilities of the role.
