ROLE TITLE: Education Specialist
REPORTS TO: Club Director or Program Director
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part-time, non-exempt (10-20 hours per week)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Education Specialist is responsible for planning, executing, supervising, and assessing activities within designated program areas, including Character and Leadership Development, Health and Life Skills, Education and Career Development, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness, and Recreation. This role supports the achievement of both organizational and Club-specific objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the development of curriculum by crafting lesson plans and engaging activities for members.
- Design personalized lesson plans to help students overcome academic obstacles and reach their educational goals.
- Conduct individual assessments to ensure ongoing academic success.
- Lead programs in academics, arts and crafts, sports fitness, and other areas as directed by supervisors.
- Create an environment conducive to achieving Youth Development Outcomes, including:
- Encouraging program participation
- Assessing new members' academic needs and facilitating the Club orientation process
- Providing guidance and serving as a role model for members
- Participating in organization-wide events
- Engaging in special programs and events as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education or a related field
- Valid Teaching License
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to inspire youth and manage behavioral challenges
- Capacity to organize and supervise members in a safe setting
- Successful completion of a background check, fingerprinting, and physical examination
Preferred:
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree, or Certification in progress in a related field
- Understanding of youth development principles
- 1-2 years of experience working with children and/or youth
- CPR and First Aid Certifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Maintain close, daily communication with Club staff, volunteers, and members to provide information, discuss issues, and clarify guidelines. Offer tutoring and mentoring through direct interactions and other opportunities.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to stand, walk on uneven surfaces, sit, handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and may be exposed to various weather conditions. The noise level is typically minimal to moderate.
