Academic Support Coordinator for Student-Athletes

The University of New Mexico is seeking an Academic Support Coordinator to assist student-athletes, with a particular emphasis on women's basketball and other Olympic sports such as baseball and track and field.

The successful candidate will have a thorough knowledge of NCAA regulations concerning student eligibility and graduation standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Delivering a range of student services including career counseling, tutoring, accessibility assistance, crisis intervention, and educational programming
  • Working in partnership with Academic Advisors to provide academic support
  • Executing initiatives aimed at enhancing recruitment, retention, and graduation outcomes
  • Guiding student-athletes in fulfilling eligibility requirements established by NCAA and conference regulations
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree along with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience. Candidates with advanced degrees may substitute experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Education, Sports Management, or a related discipline
  • Experience in advising collegiate athletes and managing tutoring initiatives
  • In-depth knowledge of NCAA eligibility standards
  • Leading programs to assist students with varied academic needs
  • Proven ability to engage with at-risk students and utilize diverse teaching strategies
  • Strong self-motivation, professionalism, and collaborative skills
  • Facilitating workshops aimed at student-athlete development
This position is part of the Athletics Academic Advising department and is a full-time role with benefits.
