Position Summary: The selected candidate will engage directly with trading teams, overseeing the development, support, and maintenance of trading and analytical solutions, which are underpinned by APIs, applications, and visualization tools. This hands-on position necessitates independent work while fostering collaboration with various IT teams.
Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Senior Vice President of Information Technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with traders and analysts to gain insights into existing platforms and trading models. Develop software solutions that facilitate commercial activities influenced by market dynamics.
- Lead the requirements gathering and design processes to enhance models, algorithms, and data management solutions for power flow and economic dispatch simulations.
- Create cloud-native solutions that ensure seamless integration within the IT framework across diverse North American commodity markets.
- Oversee the management and enhancement of trading models and data collectors utilized by the trading team.
- Utilize analytical thinking to identify opportunities for improving trading strategies and systems, exploring new datasets and third-party tools.
- Manage business deliverables in collaboration with cross-functional IT teams to support trade capture and risk analytics.
- Ensure adherence to software development standards, including requirements definition and compliance with IT procedures.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Quantitative Finance, Engineering, or a related field, with significant coursework or experience in programming and statistical techniques.
- Over 10 years of professional programming experience in the commodities technology sector.
- Proficient in handling extensive datasets and market data.
- Experience in a front office environment supporting quantitative analytics is essential.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python, R, Matlab, C++, .Net, or Java, along with modern data analysis and visualization tools.
- Familiarity with cloud-based environments and DevOps frameworks, with knowledge of Microsoft Azure being advantageous.
- Experience with both traditional and cloud-based database systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of users.
- A results-oriented team player capable of managing multiple projects in a dynamic setting.
- Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- A passion for technology and a commitment to staying updated with industry trends.
- Excellent time management capabilities.
Preferred Experience:
- Hands-on programming experience in the power industry, particularly in FTR trading.
- Familiarity with industry-standard power transmission analysis platforms.
- Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code.
- Knowledge of technologies such as Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and messaging systems.
