Position Summary

The Staff Accountant will collaborate with all CDI locations to facilitate financial decision-making by gathering, analyzing, investigating, and reporting financial data, with a particular emphasis on prepaid assets, various accruals, general ledger support, and other necessary areas. This role provides direct support to the Director of Accounting and assists in reporting to management and the executive leadership team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct mid-level general ledger account reconciliations, ensuring accurate reporting and data verification.
  • Prepare financial reports as requested by senior management by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, including assigned journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and maintenance of general ledger accounts.
  • Assist in the annual audit by acting as the primary contact for key accounting areas.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to enhance internal controls.
  • Evaluate current processes and procedures, proposing alternatives to improve operational efficiency.
  • Manage prepaid and property tax schedules, ensuring accurate amortization and payment of financial obligations.
  • Adhere to all safety and workplace regulations.
  • Foster positive relationships with co-workers, management, customers, vendors, and employees in line with company policies.
  • Maintain a constructive attitude and contribute to a quality work environment.
  • Exhibit excellent attendance to support company objectives.
  • Utilize initiative and judgment in decision-making, aligning with the best interests of California Dairies, Inc.
  • Perform additional assignments as directed by the Director of Accounting and other finance and accounting leaders.
Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates must effectively perform each essential duty. The qualifications listed below represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Experience in finance and accounting.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, including an understanding of debits and credits.
  • Ability to prepare and reconcile journal entries.
  • Familiarity with accruals, capitalization, and amortization processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging with upper management.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines and consistently complete monthly closing tasks on schedule.
  • Self-directed learner who knows when to seek assistance.
Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution is preferred. Other relevant business degrees may be considered with appropriate accounting experience.
  • A minimum of two years of related accounting experience is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Basic computational skills are required.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and other Microsoft products is essential. Familiarity with Power Query and other Power Platform products is advantageous.
  • Experience with month-end close and compliance software (e.g., Blackline, FloQast) is preferred.
  • Experience with large ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O, SAP, Oracle Fusion) is preferred.
Language Skills

English proficiency is required, with the ability to communicate effectively and clearly with personnel across various locations.

Reasoning Ability

Must apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form. The ability to identify when issues require input from higher levels of authority is essential.
  • The Staff Accountant must analyze monthly variances and provide explanations for each, demonstrating logical thinking.
  • Timely completion of monthly variance analysis is critical to ensure prompt financial reporting.
