Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Endoscopy Department at Geisinger Health System. As an Endoscopy Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform patient assessment, IV conscious sedation, patient/family teaching, and triage.
  • Provide primary clinical support to the provider and patient to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient's condition.
  • Follow up on diagnostic testing to ensure completion, accuracy, and filing in the medical record to ensure continuity and care.
Job Duties
  • Obtain and document patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs, and provide basic medical data for the provider.
  • Assist the provider in the performance of GI endoscopic procedures as directed by the provider to facilitate accurate diagnosis.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete associated paperwork to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist with the orientation of new personnel to ensure they are appropriately trained to support patients and the provider.
  • Execute and document ongoing patient communication.
  • Provide instruction to ensure the patient's understanding of their medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions.
  • Insert, monitor, regulate, and discontinue IVs as required by the provider.
  • Administer medications.
  • Administer blood products, IV push medications, and conscious sedation.
  • Monitor patients having conscious sedation and during recovery.
  • Monitor inventory of medical and surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and controlled substances to ensure adequate supply levels, verify expiration dates, document utilization, optimize organizational efficiency, and space utilization.
  • Routinely inspect and observe the condition and operation of diagnostic equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identify the need for preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • May clean, sterilize, and prepare instruments according to established protocols to ensure the required level of asepsis and adequate availability.
  • Oversee and lead work activities of other Clinic Nurses and Endoscopy Technicians.
  • Insert and administer intravenous therapy per unit protocol.
  • Administer preoperative, pre-procedure medication as ordered and indicated per unit protocol.
  • Instruct patients and significant others during the preoperative, pre-procedural period and offer emotional support.
  • Recognize early changes in the patient's condition, any unusual events, or post-operative complications and initiate appropriate action for the management of those events or complications.
  • Collaborate with anesthesia services in the administration of moderate sedation.
Requirements
  • Graduate from a Specialty Training Program.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related work experience.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - RN_State of Pennsylvania.
  • Basic Life Support Certification.
