Job Summary

As a skilled Endoscopy Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a fast-paced procedure-based unit. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring the smooth execution of endoscopic procedures, including EGD, colonoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, bronchoscopy, and ERCP.

Key Responsibilities

  • Obtain and document patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs, and provide basic medical data for the provider.
  • Assist the provider in performing GI endoscopic procedures as directed, ensuring accurate diagnosis and patient safety.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, completing associated paperwork to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist with the orientation of new personnel, ensuring they are appropriately trained to support patients and providers.
  • Execute and document ongoing patient communication, providing instruction to ensure patient understanding of medical conditions and compliance with treatment instructions.
  • Insert, monitor, regulate, and discontinue IVs as required by the provider.
  • Administer medications, blood products, IV push medications, and conscious sedation.
  • Monitor patients undergoing conscious sedation and during recovery.
  • Monitor inventory of medical and surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and controlled substances, ensuring adequate supply levels, verifying expiration dates, documenting utilization, and optimizing organizational efficiency and space utilization.
  • Routinely inspect and observe the condition and operation of diagnostic equipment and instrumentation, ensuring proper operation and identifying the need for preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • May clean, sterilize, and prepare instruments according to established protocols, ensuring the required level of asepsis and adequate availability.
  • Oversee and lead work activities of other Clinic Nurses and Endoscopy Technicians.
  • Insert and administer intravenous therapy per unit protocol.
  • Administer preoperative and pre-procedure medication as ordered and indicated per unit protocol.
  • Instruct patients and significant others during the preoperative and pre-procedural period, offering emotional support.
  • Recognize early changes in the patient's condition, unusual events, or post-operative complications, and initiate appropriate action for their management.
  • Collaborate with anesthesia services in the administration of moderate sedation.

Work Environment

Work is typically performed in a clinical environment. Accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.

Position Details

This position qualifies for a $15,000 joining incentive for a 2-year work commitment. Certain stipulations apply.

Prior pre/post procedural experience is preferred.

  • Hours: Rotation of start times between 6:30am, 7am, and 8am
  • On-call rotation - to be discussed at interview
  • No scheduled weekends or holidays - besides on-call
  • Union: Yes
