We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Endoscopy Department at Geisinger Health System. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support to our patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Perform patient assessment, IV conscious sedation, patient/family teaching, and triage.
- Provide primary clinical support to the provider and patient to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient's condition.
- Follow up on diagnostic testing to ensure completion, accuracy, and filing in the medical record to ensure continuity and care.
- Obtain and document patient medical history, chief complaint, vital signs, and provide basic medical data for the provider.
- Assist the provider in the performance of GI endoscopic procedures as directed.
- Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and complete associated paperwork to expedite laboratory studies with maximum accuracy and efficiency.
- Assist with the orientation of new personnel to ensure they are appropriately trained to support patients and providers.
- Execute and document ongoing patient communication.
- Provide instruction to ensure patient understanding of medical condition and compliance with treatment instructions.
- Insert, monitor, regulate, and discontinue IVs as required by the provider.
- Administer medications and blood products, IV push medications, and conscious sedation.
- Monitor patients having conscious sedation and during recovery.
- Monitor inventory of medical and surgical supplies, pharmaceuticals, and controlled substances to ensure adequate supply levels, verify expiration dates, document utilization, optimize organizational efficiency, and space utilization.
- Routinely inspect and observe the condition and operation of diagnostic equipment and instrumentation to ensure proper operation and identify the need for preventive and corrective maintenance.
- May clean, sterilize, and prepare instruments according to established protocols to ensure the required level of asepsis and adequate availability.
- Oversee and lead work activities of other Clinic Nurses and Endoscopy Technicians.
- Insert and administer intravenous therapy per unit protocol.
- Administer preoperative, pre-procedure medication as ordered and indicated per unit protocol.
- Instruct patients and significant others during the preoperative, pre-procedural period and offer emotional support.
- Recognize early changes in the patient's condition, any unusual events, or post-operative complications and initiate appropriate action for the management of those events or complications.
- Collaborate with anesthesia services in the administration of moderate sedation.
- Graduate from a Specialty Training Program.
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience.
- Basic Life Support Certification.
- Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania).
