About the Role of Route Operations Manager
As a Route Operations Manager, you will oversee the onboarding, development, coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation of a team of approximately 15 drivers. Your role will involve fostering positive relationships with all frontline personnel, dedicating significant time in the field alongside your team.

Key Responsibilities

Onboarding

  • Equip new frontline personnel with the necessary tools, guidance, and feedback for effective daily operations.
  • Engage with new employees daily to ensure clear communication and support throughout the onboarding process.

Development

  • Maintain regular and constructive interactions with frontline personnel.
  • Continuously review best practices to enhance daily operational performance.
  • Focus on understanding and supporting the career aspirations of frontline employees.

Coaching

  • Identify and address areas for improvement, collaborating with frontline personnel to ensure ongoing success.
  • Actively seek feedback on coaching discussions to enhance effectiveness.

Mentoring

  • Lead by example to prioritize safety practices among all employees.
  • Educate and instill an understanding of the Waste Management principles.

Performance Management

  • Conduct thorough investigations into any injuries or incidents, ensuring consistent disciplinary measures and retraining as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate documentation required by regulatory bodies, including the Department of Transportation.
  • Review and audit daily route operation documentation (e.g., DVIRs, driver attendance), following up as needed.
  • Engage with customers and visit service locations to assess and address safety concerns, exploring service alternatives when appropriate.

Qualifications for Route Operations Manager
The qualifications outlined below are representative of the skills and experience required for this position.

  • Education: Associate's Degree (accredited) or High School Diploma (accredited) with two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience: No prior experience required or successful completion of the Waste Management Route Manager Trainee program.
  • Knowledge of route analysis and logistics is essential.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is required.

Work Environment
This position operates in a combination of office and field environments, routinely utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, and copiers.
