Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team at The City of Morgantown. As a Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our public buildings, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our citizens and employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and remove all interior solid waste and litter daily, ensuring a clean and tidy environment.
  • Clean windows, tables, chairs, walls, and floors, and dust shelves to maintain a high level of cleanliness.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies inventory, and determine the correct type and proper use of cleaning chemicals and agents.
  • Clean restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, walls, floors, and restock soap and paper supplies as needed.
  • Mop, strip, wax, and spray buff floors, shampoo and vacuum carpet and fabric furniture, and perform other janitorial tasks as assigned.
  • Coordinate contracted cleaning services, such as exterior windows, commercial carpet cleaning, and steam cleaning, as needed.
  • Identify and report possible repairs, and promote professional and courteous service as a representative of The City of Morgantown.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Employees work both indoors and outdoors, depending on task assignment, and may encounter dirt, dust, noise, odors, and fumes.
  • Employees spend a large portion of their shift using equipment, requiring fine hand-eye coordination, and may work in physical locations that require repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, crawling, and working from ladders and elevated workplaces.
  • Daily operations require unaided lifting of objects weighing up to 51 pounds.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • One (1) year of relevant experience in the janitorial field.
