We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Clinical Support Specialist to join our team at Eastern Virginia Medical School. As a key member of our clinical staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical services.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of surgical procedures and protocols to provide exceptional patient care and support.
- Assist faculty members in preparing for clinical sessions, including reviewing medical records and entering relevant information into patient charts.
- Room patients, obtain vital signs, and document medical history and clinical summaries as needed.
- Order tests and consultations with other physicians, and ensure that all required orders are addressed in a timely manner.
- Update patients on the status of their care plans and provide excellent customer service to all patients and physicians.
- Work closely with the receptionist and administrative assistant to create surgical schedules and coordinate with surgeons, patients, and other departments as needed.
- Discuss estimated quotes and costs related to surgery, anesthesia, and facility fees with patients and families.
- Assist in providing answers to common concerns and questions that patients may have, in collaboration with faculty members, resident physicians, and clinical supervisors.
- Completion of a program of instruction for Medical Assistants and certification as a Medical Assistant (RMA or CMA) is required, or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
- Completion of BLS training and recertification every 2 years.
- Prior experience in a surgical setting is strongly preferred.
