Job Summary

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operations Supervisor to oversee and perform installation, maintenance, repair, and new construction of City structures. This is a critical role that requires strong leadership and technical skills to manage a team of workers and ensure the successful execution of various projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Management: Plan, coordinate, and supervise the execution of maintenance, repair, and construction activities for asphalt and concrete structures, including potholes, road repair, cave-ins, ditch maintenance, vegetation control, debris removal, and other related tasks.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and train workers, inmates, or other personnel in the execution of maintenance, repair, and construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and City regulations.
  • Operational Oversight: Operate and maintain heavy equipment, including light to heavy motor equipment and related attachments, to perform various tasks such as snow removal, ice control, flood control, and hurricane response.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform supervisory functions, including training, work order data entry, timecard management and approval, recommending staff selection, evaluation of work, counseling, and disciplining staff.
  • Inclement Weather Response: Lead workers during inclement weather in the execution of snow removal, ice control, flood control, and hurricane response.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma, GED, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Valid driver's license, Class A CDL, and tanker endorsement within 30 days of employment.
  • Special Skills: Experience with Kronos and Maximo desirable.
Working Conditions

Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
