Position Overview

Library Systems & Services is in search of a part-time Literacy Services Associate to join our dedicated team. This role is integral to our Literacy Services department and will report directly to the Literacy Coordinators. The ideal candidate will exhibit a friendly demeanor, possess exceptional communication and organizational skills, and demonstrate a strong commitment to promoting literacy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitating orientation sessions for learners.
  • Conducting assessments for adults, families, and ESL participants entering the literacy program, as well as providing tutor training and support.
  • Delivering high-quality customer service.
  • Creating content for newsletters and documenting procedures.
  • Maintaining accurate records through timely data entry.
  • Assisting with the operational tasks of the literacy learning center.
  • Handling phone and reception duties.
  • Engaging in community outreach initiatives.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Experience in literacy, education, social services, or a related field is advantageous.
  • Possession of the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities, along with the required education and experience.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom.
  • Outstanding customer service skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on empathy and respect for individuals from diverse backgrounds; bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and alignment with the program's mission and objectives.
  • Physical capability to move throughout the facility, handle materials weighing up to 25 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 35 pounds.
