Position Overview: The Port of Seattle is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Accountant - Disbursements to deliver advanced accounting support and technical expertise in Payroll and Accounts Payable. This role is crucial for maintaining the financial integrity of our accounting systems and ensuring accurate reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough analysis to identify discrepancies and collaborate with internal and external staff to resolve financial issues.
  • Manage month-end closing activities, including journal preparation, variance analysis, and payroll allocation entries.
  • Address inquiries from auditors and management regarding payroll processes and financial data.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for various financial obligations and audits.
  • Provide essential data for medical reports and third-party audit requests.
  • Design procedures for capturing payroll information necessary for compliance with accounting standards.
  • Support research and reporting needs related to payroll and accounts payable.
  • Review changes in collective bargaining agreements to ensure accurate financial representation.

Candidate Profile:

  • Experience: A minimum of five years in accounting operations, with at least one year in a leadership role related to financial reporting.
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business administration is preferred, along with an active CPA certification.
  • Equity Commitment: A dedication to applying equity principles in all work aspects.
  • Expertise: Proficient in senior-level accounting practices and knowledgeable in FASB or GASB standards.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong proficiency in ERP accounting systems and a keen eye for detail in financial data analysis.
  • Decision-Making: Ability to work independently or collaboratively, demonstrating sound judgment under pressure.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.

Work Environment: This position offers a hybrid work setting, with a standard schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Residency Requirement: Candidates must establish and maintain residency in Washington State during employment.
