The purpose of this position is to connect uninsured hospital patients to programs that will cover their medical expenses. Working as the liaison between the patient in need, the hospital facility and government agencies.
Key Responsibilities- Screen uninsured hospital patients to determine eligibility for federal, state, and/or county medical or disability assistance.
- Complete applications and follow through until approved.
- Document cases accurately and timely in company and hospital systems.
- Provide exceptional customer service skills at all times.
- Participate in ongoing trainings to apply learned content in dealings with patients and cases.
- Maintain assigned work queue of patient accounts.
- Collaborate with hospital staff, case managers, social workers, and financial counselors.
- Answer incoming calls, make outbound calls, and track paperwork for prospective Medicaid patients.
- Maintain structured and timely contact with applicants and government agencies.
- Assist applicants with gathering reports or records, meeting appointment dates, and arranging transportation as needed.
- Request home visits to acquire documentation.
- Inform clients of approvals and denials of coverage in a timely manner.
- Participate in additional training requirements to stay up-to-date on changing rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Adaptability when dealing with changing processes, computer systems, and government programs.
- Professional experience working with state and federal programs.
- Exemplary critical thinking skills.
- Ability to maneuver throughout the hospital and patients' rooms for up to 8 hours per day.
- Proficient experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel and Outlook.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior hospital experience preferred.
- Must fluently read, write, and speak both English and Spanish.
